How to find and export your Figma data.

Figma lists unlimited cloud storage on paid plans and has no storage meter, so count files instead. Files live in team folders (formerly projects) and members' drafts, and a team's files can be listed through the REST API. Report the number of files, and use a few saved .fig copies to estimate size if you also want a GB figure.

Where Figma shows how much you have.

  1. Sign in with an account that belongs to every team you want to count. On Organization and Enterprise plans, open All teams to find teams you are not in yet.
  2. Open each team and each folder and note the file count. Figma began moving projects to folders on August 3, 2026, so some accounts may still show Projects.
  3. For large accounts, use the REST API: GET /v1/teams/TEAM_ID/projects lists a team's projects and GET /v1/projects/PROJECT_ID/files lists each project's files. Both need the projects:read scope and are deprecated in favor of folder endpoints.
  4. Remember that drafts are private to each member. Ask members to move work files into team folders or count their drafts separately.
  5. To estimate size, open a few typical files, select Main menu > File > Save local copy, and multiply the average file size by your file count.

Plan and role. Anyone with can view access can open files and save local copies unless the owner has restricted copying. Organization and Enterprise plans add centralized administration and activity logs, and the Starter plan allows only 3 Figma Design and Sites files in its one folder.

What to report on the Polyshares intake.

Report Figma in files. The intake also asks how many years the company has used it and how many seats it has.

Report the number of Figma files as files. Figma shows no storage total, and file counts are what the product and API expose. If you measured sample .fig copies, mention the estimated GB as well.

For years in use, use the version history of your oldest active files or the date your team first subscribed. Professional teams and organizations can see a file's entire version history, while Starter teams see only 30 days.

For seats, count the paid seats on your plan, such as full seats.

Export the full history.

  1. Before starting, check that files are not restricted from copying and sharing, since restrictions hide Save local copy from viewers.
  2. Open a file and select Main menu > File > Save local copy. Figma saves .fig for Figma Design, .jam for FigJam, .deck for Slides, .buzz for Buzz, .site for Sites and .make for Make.
  3. Repeat for every file. Figma documents no bulk download of native files, so for large accounts pull the file list from the REST API first and work through it folder by folder.
  4. Where past states matter, open the file's version history, duplicate a version to create a new file, and save a local copy of that file.
  5. For rendered output, the API endpoint GET /v1/images/FILE_KEY returns images of chosen frames as JPG, PNG, SVG or PDF.

A local copy is the file as it is now. It does not include comments or version history, and a reimported copy is not linked to the original, so its components no longer receive updates from the source library.

The REST API returns a JSON representation of files and rendered images, but no endpoint downloads native .fig files. The project and file listing endpoints are Tier 2 endpoints that cannot be used with public OAuth apps.

Figma notes that .fig and its sibling formats are proprietary and may change, and it advises against third party tools that ask for these files. Starter teams see only 30 days of version history.

The intake only needs the size, so you do not have to run an export to fill it in. You also do not need to clean or scrub an export. Polyshares handles anonymization before anything moves.

Why Figma data has value for AI training.

Figma files hold the path from rough exploration to shipped interface: frames, components, layout rules and the prototype flows between screens. Version history shows how a design changed over weeks of review.

Design systems add structure. Components and styles reused across hundreds of files show how a company's interface rules are applied in practice, which is hard to learn from screenshots alone.

What stays private.

Drafts are private to each member, so personal explorations stay out unless members move them into shared folders.

We anonymize identifying details before anything moves. Polyshares does that work, so your team does not have to scrub records first.

Your company keeps ownership of its data. The license is bounded to defined material and a defined use.

Polyshares is the buyer and pays your company directly. There is no fee or commission, and Polyshares reviews the record before it makes any offer.

Common questions about Figma data.

Can we bulk export all Figma files at once?

Figma's help center documents Save local copy one file at a time and no bulk native export. Use the REST API to list files, then save each one.

Does Save local copy include comments and version history?

No. The local copy has the file as it is now, without comments or version history.

How much storage does Figma give us?

Figma lists unlimited cloud storage on paid plans, so there is no storage meter to read. Count files instead.

Why is Save local copy missing for some Figma files?

The file owner may have restricted viewers from copying or exporting. Ask someone with edit access to lift the restriction or save the copy.
