Data licensing
We buy your company's operational data.
Polyshares is a data lab. We license the operating record directly from the company that produced it, pay for it ourselves, and supply the AI labs. You are selling to us, not through us.
Most companies hold an asset they have never priced.
Every business with real operating history has produced a second asset without meaning to. It is the record of how the work actually got done, accumulated year after year as a byproduct of running.
The AI labs need that material. The market for it is young, and most owners have never priced what they hold because until recently there was nothing to price it against.
We are the buyer. The company deals with Polyshares and nobody else, keeps its equity, and keeps ownership of the underlying data.
Operational data means the working record of the business. Slack and Teams, Drive and SharePoint, email, CRM history, support tickets, design files, call recordings, accounting and ERP exports.
What we are actually paying for.
The value is not in volume. It is in reasoning that was captured while the work happened.
A support ticket that shows a problem being misdiagnosed, argued over, and finally resolved is worth more than a clean table of finished numbers. A thread where two people disagree about a quote and work it out carries judgment that cannot be manufactured. The messy working record is the point, not a defect in it.
This is why an ordinary operating business holds something no data vendor can produce to order. Nobody can fabricate ten years of a company arguing with itself and getting to an answer.
The terms of a Polyshares deal.
The structure is the same in every deal we do. The variables are the record and the price.
- Counterparty
- Polyshares. We are the buyer. No marketplace, no listing, and no auction.
- Deal size
- Typically $100K to $2M, paid by us to the company.
- Structure
- A license to defined operational data. Non-dilutive, with no equity and no debt.
- Cost to you
- None. There is no fee and no commission. We pay you.
- Who qualifies
- Any company with real operating history. Venture backed, middle market, or founder owned.
- Terms
- Agreed and papered within a week of the first conversation.
- Review
- We look at the record before we price it. We do not pay for something we have not seen.
- Payment
- Net 30 to 60, once the data is approved, shared, and anonymized.
- Anonymization
- Handled before anything moves. Identifying fields are stripped as part of preparing the data.
- Ownership
- You keep the business and the underlying data. The license is defined and bounded.
We are not a marketplace, and we are not an agent.
We will not list your company anywhere. Listings put a seller in a queue behind everyone else and reward whoever uploaded the most.
We also do not work on your behalf for a cut. An agent is paid out of your proceeds and carries none of the risk. We take the other side of the trade, which is why the number we quote is the number you receive.
Polyshares also buys companies outright, currently MSPs and IT providers. A license runs for a term, and an owned business keeps producing a record indefinitely. An owner thinking about selling the company rather than licensing its record can approach us on that basis instead.
Questions
Questions owners ask before the first call.
Does Polyshares buy company data, or broker it?
We buy it. Polyshares is a data lab and the counterparty on the deal. We license the data directly from the company that produced it, pay for it ourselves, and supply the AI labs. There is no third party for the company to deal with and nothing is listed anywhere.
What does it cost the company?
Nothing. There is no fee and no commission, because we are not working on your behalf. We are buying. Money moves in one direction, from us to you.
How much does Polyshares pay?
Deals typically land between $100K and $2M paid to the company. Depth of operating history and how much visible reasoning the record contains move the number far more than raw volume does.
When does the money arrive?
Net 30 to 60, once the data has been approved, shared, and anonymized. We do not pay for a record we have not seen, so the review comes first.
Does a data license dilute the company?
No. A license carries no equity and no debt. It does not touch the cap table, and it creates no repayment obligation.
What happens to the data after Polyshares licenses it?
We anonymize it, build it into data sets, and supply AI labs. Use is bounded by the license, and we do not disclose which labs take which data.
Does customer information leave the company?
Identifying fields are stripped as part of preparing the data, before anything moves. Handling that is our responsibility rather than yours.
What kind of company qualifies?
Any business with real operating history. Venture backed, middle market, or founder owned. The length and texture of the record matter more than headcount or revenue.
